Nano Learning
What is nano learning?
Nano learning, also known as bite-sized learning or on-demand training, is an approach that breaks down extensive learning programs into smaller, manageable chunks. Each elearning objective is designed for modules generally lasting only 3-5 minutes. These bite-sized learning sessions are crafted to ensure that specific learning objectives are achieved efficiently and effectively.
Nano learning is particularly effective because it leverages short bursts of concentration, allowing learners to absorb information in a focused manner. Each module is designed to be concise and to the point, targeting a specific learning outcome. This method ensures learners can complete modules conveniently, fitting learning into their busy schedules without feeling overwhelmed.
With nano learning, the learner’s progress and data are tracked through an elearning platform, typically an LMS. Educators play a crucial role in this process, guiding and supporting learners as they progress. Progress is monitored over time rather than all at once, allowing for a detailed and ongoing assessment of the learner’s journey. This continuous tracking, with the educator’s input, is essential for ensuring the ultimate learning objectives are met. By analysing completion rates, engagement levels, and assessment results, educators can confirm that each learner remains on track to achieve the overall goals of the training program.
Bite-sized learning for the modern learner
Nano learning, an efficient approach, seamlessly fits into the busy lifestyle of today’s modern learner. “Each module can be completed…when it best suits the user. Together, they form an effective module of training. The best thing about this is that they can be completed purposefully. When you want to and, naturally, as often as you need to.”[1] This flexibility empowers learners to integrate education into their schedules without feeling overwhelmed. As a result, they can achieve their elearning objectives quickly amidst their busy routines, bringing a sense of accomplishment.
Advantages of nano learning for a busy lifestyle
- Time Efficiency — Each module lasts only 3-5 minutes, making it easy to fit learning into short breaks during the day.
- Convenient Scheduling — Learners can complete modules during their free time, such as during a commute, lunch break, or between meetings.
- Minimised Disruption—Each module’s short duration ensures that learning does not interfere with daily responsibilities.
- Continuous Learning — Progress is tracked over time, allowing learners to maintain a steady pace of learning without the need for extended study sessions.
- Flexibility — Learners can revisit modules as needed, reinforcing knowledge without the pressure of a fixed schedule. This flexibility liberates learners from rigid learning schedules, allowing them to learn at their own pace and style.
- Accessibility — Nano learning modules can be accessed on various devices, enabling learning on the go and ensuring that busy learners can study wherever they are.
